I have been a long time fan of Persian food, and I’ve found that while you can easily find authentic recipes, you can make some really delicious variations with traditional ingredients. This is especially true when it comes to fruits, vegetables, and nuts.
One of the first things I notice when visiting a Persian restaurant is the way the staff tends to be very careful about the presentation of the foods. They use fresh, organic, and natural products. The way they prepare and serve foods changes from shop to shop and location to location.
This is the reason why some foods never seem to come out right for me as a new age cook. Even though I’ve studied other cultures, I still need to test out what is in front of me by going to restaurants that use the same ingredients.
One thing I noticed, however, is that many of the fresher ingredients are hard to find. If the store doesn’t have that particular product, then they typically have it frozen or in airtight containers. These foods are still good, but often they are very expensive to buy.
A good example of this is apples. You can get them in most stores, but they are sometimes more expensive than the other more familiar fruits. Another thing you can do is go to a farmer’s market or an ethnic grocery. These places are usually willing to cut the price to get it to you, but you need to know the proper preparation before you can make it all work.
This brings me to another great ingredient that I’ve seen on a regular basis. These include things like: beans, rice, and wheat. Beans and rice go great with almost any type of food, while wheat, being a bit tougher to prepare, is best left to the experts.
Those three are probably the best all-around and healthy options for a person to try. Other things you may want to try are chickpeas, dried apricots, and almonds. Each of these has its own uses.
For a more healthy variation, try creating a meal with rice and lentils instead of the rice or wheat. While these types of grains can give you a little sugar spike, you won’t have to worry about a much of caloric intake as you would with the traditional meals. Lentils, in particular, is a very filling grain that is high in protein.
A third example of a healthy variety of food is soybeans. Not only are they healthy, but they are very filling and easy to prepare.
There are numerous variations on these three types of foods. What will help you is to go visit a local Asian market or a speciality grocery store?
These types of places usually have a lot of fresh items that are not widely available in a typical grocery store. If you are shopping in a larger metropolitan area, then the internet is another great option for finding great deals.
One final note is that you can find restaurants that sell foods from Oriental markets. Many of these places offer you a wide selection of different dishes and different flavours.
